People today have no margin in their lives. We fill our days fully, enslaved to the "Tyranny of the Urgent". The author has challenged us to take charge of our "discretionary time" and chose to spend quality time with God daily. And then, periodically retreat to our "safe place" in the "great outdoors" were we can commune with God, free from life's distractions. Listen. Be quiet and know that "He is God" and He will reveal his plan for your life. Now, step out boldly: "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6, NIV. Great Counsel from the author.Product details

Backcountry Devotions eBook Douglas Gilmer Darin Letzring Reviews
Doug Gilmer writes from his own personal experience in nature and God's Word, offering thought-provoking devotionals that will resonate with any love of the outdoors. Each entry starts with Scripture, includes some aspect of outdoor life (gear, activity, geography), and typically asks some question that you can ponder as you're hiking, fishing, camping, or rock climbing. Gilmer also includes a section with Scripture verses and hymns relevant to outdoor life. For instance creation, God's provision in the wilderness, How Great Thou Art, This Is My Father's World.
Backcountry Devotions is just the right size to slip into your trail pack, or bring with you on a fishing trip (although unfortunately, it's not waterproof!). I'd recommend to any lover of the outdoors as a wonderful way to draw near to God in the midst of His beautiful creation.
This devotional book uses great illustrations of the outdoors and I am an outdoors man. He also ties scriptures into the stories which makes the Bible come alive! I love this book!
The great outdoors is the greatest church. This book revels in that fact, and provides remembrance and reflection that will have you lift your eyes to the hills ... in awe and wonder.
A very inspiring book especially for outdoorsmen. I enjoyed how Doug relates outdoor adventures to important lessons about life and faith. It allows you to pace yourself, and you can read in bite-size chunks each day. I highly recommend this book.
Some typos, but wonderful backpacking devotion. Theologically reliable and real to the camping experience. An opportunity to reflect on the glory of God when close to nature. Easy to pack. Would like to see it produced in waterproof paper.
Great devotional for the outdoors person.
Some of the best reading. Short stories where every word counts. I know Doug Gilmer personally, and he is a very good, spiritual, God Fearing man that you can trust to bring you closer to God and closer to being that ;person that you want to be. Great Job Doug! I cherish this book and every word in it!
