As I was reading this book I had to go to the Urban Dictionary a couple of times to figure out what the author was talking about. For example the word “jawn” was used a number a times. As all of the characters said it so many times I had to assume that it was important to the story. On some of the review I noticed people commented on the grammar. I think this is a reflection of how some people talk. It is a fact of life in many areas in the US, and I think the author did a good job capturing the vernacular.Anyho, if you are looking for a story about gansta love this book is for you. Nia and Julissa were perfect example of what is and what makes a hoodrat. The saying you can take the girl out the hood but you can’t take the hood out of the girl spoke volumes about Nia. As much street savvy as she should have had from being raised in the hood she fell in to the trap pretty easily. I didn’t feel sorry for her I felt sorry for her son. Actually I felt sorry for all the children in the book. In the back of my mind I was hoping their grandparents would come get them and take them away from their stupid mammas, especially little TJ.
Julissa was a straight up gangster and as horrible as she is, she decided what she wanted and got what she wanted regardless of who she had to squish to get it and what she had to do to get it. I did love it when her “friend” told her what was wrong with her. ‘Cause she told the absolute truth. Even if you are raised in the hood you don’t have to embody EVERY stereotype about people in the hood.
I think this is a fast and interesting read. I am glad I tried it.
I would recommend it.

Wow in the blink of an eye it can all be gone well for Nia James that was so true and with friends like Julissa who needs enemy's this book is a page turner watch how nia world is turned upside down and the end is the shocker so if you haven't read it you don't know what your missing this is my first book by raymond francis and i loved it i hope there is a part 2 and i look forward to reading more of his work
Both of these women were hood as Hell, but Julissa is straight gutter trash!!! She has has a day of reckoning and hopefully it won't be too long in coming...feel sorry for those kids, and Nia is just a straight fool!!! Poor Jameer... I hope he finds out what Julissa did and gets his get back...
This was a quick read. One of the main reasons I enjoyed "At Your Best" was because it was not predictable. If you enjoy a book that has twists and turns and you won't know what to expect from one page to the next then this will be a easy/quick read. It had a lot of shocking revelations and situations that I really did not see coming. When I reflect on Julissa character I think man she was crazy! Then again, is she really crazy or did she go hard for what she really wanted?! In the end she got exactly what she wanted even though she took some REALLY drastic measure. I look forward to reading more books from Raymond Francis.
Nia James seems to have it all.She has a loving husband, a beautiful son, money to blow..but still that isn't enough. Nia feels her life is lacking something but when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to realize just how good she had it.
" At your Best" by Raymond Francis was a fast paced novel with believable characters. The plot and storyline were strong and detailed. There were a few grammatical mistakes but nothing that took away from the story. I never saw the ending coming! Definitely looking forward to reading more of this author's work.

First off let me give a big shout out to Author Jade Jones fr reccomending a excellent read. Thanks girl
What an awesomebook I love love love loved it lol, honestly couldn't put the book down from day 1. I stayed up for 2 whole nights to read this book. Yes Author Raymond Francis had the usual drugs, sex, ans scandal in it but this was out of this world. Learned a lot from this book about friendship and relationships. I don't like the way she went about it but she did what she had to do to be wth the person she loves.
All in all I give this book a 5 star rating. Can't wait to read more from Author Raymond Framcis
Nia was a woman who had it all including a good ass man who told her that her job was to be a stay at home wife and mother but that wasn't good enough. She put soooo much trust into her roaddog Julissa not knowing that she had a hidden agenda. Julissa played everyone like a hand of spades and she didn't care who got locked up or died in the process. This is a definite page turner that I read in 4.5 hours. I could not put it down and the end will shock you! Always remember in life, jealousy is when you want what someone has but envy will cause you to kill to get it. I hope Mr.Francis writes a part 2! Great job on this 5 star read!
This book is a conundrum for me. I love the book, but the characters had me ready to throw the kindle in the toilet! Maybe I am too judgmental. Maybe I paid too much attention to how the characters were acting. Whatever the case, I couldn't stand them! Julissa had me upset! She is jealous, conniving, secretive, and just plain slimy! Nia is one of those people that as much as you see the good in her and that she was searching for love, there is more to see if you just pay attention. The men in the book are awesome, but they are all flawed in my opinion. This was a book that when you think that you know what happened, you realize you have no freaking idea! All in all, it was a great read, especially since I am not taking any of the characters to the lunch.
